GET TO KNOW ABOUT THE FOUNDER OF ACQUAMOUR

Hi there welcome and good to see you here at ACQUAMOUR BRIDAL. Am JERIE MEHARI and Creative Director and Designer at ACQUAMOUR HABESHA BRIDAL COUTURE. Am here to share my journey with you, and to tell you a bit more about ACQUAMOUR.
You may wonder what does ACQUAMOUR means, it means Water of Love. I grow up by the Red Sea in Asseb Eritrea. I loved the sea and I always miss it. I also wanted my brand to reflect and express the love that freely flows between Lovers. The love that binds them together, the strong bond of love that brought them to marriage. Two become one. So it needed to be one word that expressed everything . At studio Kankua with brilliant Rebeka and Dario, we had several brand storming sessions and arrived at Acqua Amour , in my favourite love language, and merged them to one word. That is how ACQUAMOUR is born.don’t you think it is such a pretty name with so much more meaning. I do.

ACQUAMOUR is a slow BRIDAL fashion brand that focuses on COUTURE techniques, VINTAGE style BESPOKE fit for a MODERN bride.

My background is fashion. I studied FASHION PORTFOLIO and SURFACE TEXTILE FOR FASHION at LONDON COLLEGE OF FASHION in UK from 2004 until 2007. I spent years sharpening my skills on couture and bridal couture has always been where my hearts set in.
It all started when I was 17 years old and running around to help my friend Asnaketch find a wedding dress for her big day. When I found it I knew she would love it. I showed it to her and words can’t convey how happy and ecstatic she was , it was pure joy. Ever since then I dreamt of having my own bridal couture and bring every bride I work with, the same Joy and happiness.
Over time I developed this sens that I am more attracted to natural fibres like Silk, Linen and organic Cotton, and started to incorporate more of these in my work. The use of natural materials makes my work sustainable, breathable, and also comfortable.

In August 2020 At long last I realised my dream and started ACQUAMOUR HABESHA BRIDAL COUTURE.

I believes in a slow sustainable heirloom bridal creations , couture sewing techniques, bespoke fit and vintage style for the modern bride . It gives me great pleasure making beautiful elegant and classic timeless heirloom dresses. I believe that if bridal gowns are made well and with natural fibres they can be worn and passed on for many generations to come.

I also realised that I love making and creating wedding dresses from habesha traditional Libs. The hand weavers work, the hand and machine embroiderers, the traditional Gold work, all inspires me to create something special and unique.

Lately I have been studying and looking into habesha historical bridal wears. For example the dresses worn by queen Tirunesh the second wife of king Tewodros II has been an amazing journey. The design the workmanship is all mesmerising and educational. The fabric used the silk embroidery and the intricate silver decoration – is just awe inspiring.

There is so much more to tell you, so I better update you gradually, as we go along on my blog. There I will cover both curent and past projects. Stay tuned.
